A brand-new update just dropped on Baltarus, and it’s bringing the action to a whole new level.

This exciting new game mode is all about intense, close-quarters combat, whether you are playing solo or teaming up with friends.

Protect your base against relentless hordes of enemies or fiercely attack your opponent as a Soldier or commander! The choice is yours!

Load your weapons, suit up and prepare for battle to stay in control of the battlefield. Are you ready to face the relentless enemy onslaught?

Although the focus has been on the new Siege game mode, there have been numerous fixes and improvements. See the patch notes for all the details:

• Fixed: Human FPS weapon lowers correctly now

• Fixed: Alien camera would face zero by default, despite spawn orientation

• Fixed: Dead aliens would slide across the ground

• Fixed: Occasional NaN error for projectile hits

New update introduces the Alien Queen to the Strategy game mode!

Today's update introduces the Alien Queen to the Strategy game mode, whose elimination results in a loss for the Aliens, previously tied to the Nest. As an added bonus there are a multitude of performance optimizations, primarily improving late game performance with tons of units, as well as a plethora of fixes and improvements. Not forgotten are improvements and fixes to voice chat, which suffered from occasional looping.

The Queen herself is a formidable opponent, capable of defending herself should the need arise, though given her importance to the success of the Alien swarm, it is best to keep her safe and protected in a Nest.

With the above complete, our focus now shifts to improved respawn mechanics, AI collision avoidance, and the introduction of control points to all maps, providing additional objectives to capture and hold. Further performance improvements will continue to be worked on throughout the year.

The long-awaited voice chat and proximity chat are finally here.

Update 0.8.40

After a period of radio silence regarding updates, we are introducing a new batch of additions, changes, and fixes to enhance your experience with update 0.8.40.

The most significant addition is the long-awaited voice chat and proximity chat, enabling you to easily communicate with all the players on the battlefield. To speak in the game, simply press and hold "V" on the keyboard or button 4 on your mouse.

But remember, with great power comes great responsibility, so always be respectful to your fellow players and refrain from offensive behavior.

First of all, we’d like to wish you all a happy 2024, and thank you for your constant support and feedback last year. During that time, Dram was able to address many issues and bugs, and also managed to implement new features which were highly appraised.

Silica was announced on April 6th, 2023 as the first game under our renewed 

. It entered Early Access on Steam less than a month later. So far it’s been a pretty wild ride.

Over the past year, we’ve delivered nearly 25 updates, ranging from simple hotfixes to the reworking of entire features like:  

That’s what 2023 looked like. Now let’s discuss what comes next – a.k.a the Roadmap for Silica in 2024!

The original plan was to release 1.0 and exit Early Access in May 2024. Unfortunately, there are still plenty of things we’d like to finish before that happens. We want Silica to be in the best condition possible, so we’ve decided to push the release date back to Q4 of 2024.

Following that, Q3 and Q4 will be dedicated to the full release of Silica 1.0!

As you can see, there’s a lot to do and much to look forward to. If you‘re interested in a more detailed description of the roadmap, check out the video made by Dram. And if you want to show off that you’re a part of the Silica community,

Back in mid-October, we gave you an exclusive sneak peek at Crimson Peak in our first devblog. 

Now, the wait is officially over—the highly anticipated new map is live and ready for action!

Breaking away from the arid, sprawling sand plains of Baltarus, Crimson Peak introduces a stunning new biome.

Picture a battlefield with sparse vegetation, partially covering the landscape, all bathed in a haunting crimson glow.

Nestled within the Southern Tablelands, this top-secret balterium seeding site on the Centauri homeworld has become the epicenter of ferocious clashes for control over the precious resources.

Get ready to fight tooth and nail for dominance in this breathtaking new frontline.

But that’s not all! This update packs even more changes and enhancements. Check out the full patch notes below for all the details.

0.8.115 New map: Polaris Outpost

The last major update of the year is finally here and brings a lot of exciting changes to the game.

One of the key additions is the brand-new map: Polaris Outpost

Located at the extreme north pole of Baltarus, this map is drastically different from the hot and arid climate, usually iconic from the planet.

Crimson Peak now available in siege mode:

However, this new map is not the only new addition coming with this update.

The siege mode added in November is now playable on Crimson Peak our latest battlefield added to the game.

Beware soldiers, as this time you will be able to defend the base against relentless hordes of Aliens under the dark grim sky of the Centauri Homeworld!

 game mode, allowing you to target more accurately your key objectives.

The life of a soldier has never been so cheap in the eyes of the commanders, so get ready to go back to the meat grinder in the bat of an eye!

Added: Sandbox game mode (one player is the game master, the other play the scenario out)

Added: Strategy game mode respawn selection

Changed: Hover Bike spawn now has 1 minute timeout

Improved: AI aim offset based on skill now smoother

Improved: Harvester docking algorithm, preventing stuck harvesters

Fixed: Harvester stuck on the spot mining when the harvesting point was around 120deg to its side

Fixed: Harvester endlessly looping around a harvesting point when it was within its turning circle

Fixed: Harvester sometimes did not reach desired resource position when close by and was stuck on the spot

Fixed: Vehicles that are flipped and AI controlled wait to be unflipped

Added: Personal resources displayed in purchase menus

Added: Siege mode displays expected resources (income minus existing unit costs)

Fixed: Camera console command to copy camera coordinates works with all keyboard layouts

Fixed: Small memory leak when wheeled vehicles checked if they were not driving off the navigation mesh

Added: Server chat message when a player enters/leaves commander role in Strategy

Added: 30s countdown for AI taking command after a player leaves commander role in Strategy

Fixed: Player-controlled vehicle turrets with target-leading aimed incorrectly on server/clients

Unfortunately, the AI collision rework was not fully completed to be implemented in this update, but we hope to release it at the beginning of next year.

The point of this rework is to avoid vehicles (yes, Harvester, we are talking about you) colliding and getting stuck.

This change should greatly improve the gameplay experience and make the players’ experience smoother.

Yet again, thank you for your patience regarding the AI. We are looking forward to having it nice and perfected by the end of January/February 2025.

We’re excited to kick off the first of many Devblogs, where we’ll take you behind the scenes of our game development journey. We’ll dive into upcoming plans, future updates, and, of course, give you some tantalizing sneak peeks at what’s in store—new game modes, maps, units, and more!

Back in September, we unveiled a first look at the Sol structures, and your response was incredible! The excitement around this new design has been amazing, so we’re thrilled to bring you even more updates and visuals on this front. 😉

As many of you know, in Silica, the human empire is split between two factions: 

While Sol dominates through technological advancement and trade across the galaxy, Centauri is known for its martial prowess and ruthless efficiency, forged by the harsh conditions of their unforgiving environments. Although the two factions began on similar paths, they've grown increasingly distinct over the decades, diverging to the point of no return and now entering a full-scale conflict.

We’re crafting these differences not only through gameplay but also through distinct aesthetics—everything from weapons and combat style to uniform designs and architectural structures will emphasize the contrast between these two factions.

While we still have work to do before you see these updates in-game, we don’t want to give away everything just yet. Expect more soon on sol’s unique visual style!

But wait, there’s more! What good is a well-fortified base without strategic ground to defend it on? That’s why we’re excited to reveal a brand-new Biome: 

The map’s most striking feature is its ominous dark red sky, illuminated by its Red Dwarf star, combined with constant rainfall that fosters lush vegetation.

The thick vegetation will greatly reduce visibility, intensifying the tension in every battle.
